Job Description

Title: Young 5’s Teacher (Full-Time)

Reports to: Principal

Job Goal: The classroom teacher is responsible for teaching our Young 5’s students (ages 4-5) for the duration of the school year. The teacher will help plan and implement a curriculum that develops the whole child: spiritually, physically, emotionally, cognitively, and creatively. Young 5’s staff must be alert and able to watch over children, providing loving guidance and direction. The Young 5’s teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing learning environment that fosters academic excellence and spiritual growth in the Catholic faith, addressing mind, body, and soul.

About our school: Our school features small class sizes, averaging 15 students in our early childhood programs. In our Young 5’s classroom, the ratio is 12:1, usually with an aide present. We have strong parent support, which enriches our community. Our students are wonderful, eager to help others, and committed to service.

Performance Responsibilities
  1. Support the Catholic Mission by aligning actions and instruction with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  2. Plan lessons effectively, incorporating school and diocesan curriculum objectives.
  3. Maintain current knowledge of curriculum and communicate effectively with students; organize classroom resources to maximize learning and motivate students.
  4. Establish a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self-direction and positive self-image; set high standards for behavior and manage disruptions effectively.
  5. Collaborate with staff to foster positive relationships with students and parents.
  6. Uphold professional responsibilities by enforcing school policies and regulations.
  7. Maintain confidentiality, demonstrate sound judgment in dress and behavior.
  8. Complete 16 hours of training annually, provided by the school.
  9. Promote health and safety through healthy food options, cleaning, and sanitizing classroom materials.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  1. Strong commitment to Catholic education, aligning with the mission and values of St. Mary/McCormick Catholic Academy.
  2. Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation abilities.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills, organization, and teamwork.
  4. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Successful criminal background check.
  6. CPR and first aid certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  7. Completion of or willingness to complete the Protecting God’s Children Workshop.
Education and Experience

Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education from an accredited institution is preferred, or coursework in early childhood education.
