Job summary

Conservation Legacy is offering three Stewards Individual Placements at Yosemite National Park as part of the NPS Historic Preservation Training Center program. This AmeriCorps role provides 26 weeks of hands-on training in traditional trades, working on historic structures and landscape projects within Yosemite.

Participants receive marketable skills, a living allowance, and the Segal Education Award. Roles are on-site in El Portal, CA, with mentorship from journey-level staff.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident.
• Between 18-30 years of age (Veterans up to 35).
• Commit to a 26-week program with training and hands-on work.
• Agree to obtain high school diploma or equivalent before education award use.
• Consent to a National Service Criminal History Check.
• Willingness to learn preservation skills and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Masonry repointing and mortar analysis.
• Carpentry repairs including framing and log work.
• Roofing repairs using historic materials.
• Window restoration and repainting of historic structures.
• Historic structure condition assessments.
• Learning traditional trade skills with journey-level mentorship.
• Exposure to Masonry, Carpentry, roofing, and other skills.
• Historic and cultural landscape maintenance and management.
• Historic structure preservation and restoration.
• Use of hand and power tools.
