POSITION SUMMARY: The Personal Trainer provides customized fitness programs in cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training within a one-on-one learning environment for both health seekers and active fitness participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current certification in Personal Training from an approved organization, such as ACE, AFFA, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of strength and cardiovascular equipment and their appropriate use.
- Ability to assess individual fitness levels and effectively build customized fitness programs.
- Physical ability to lead and interact in fitness activities and perform related physical skills.
- Certification requirements include CPR/AED and First Aid within 30 days of hire; Child Abuse Prevention (for Youth and Family Fitness programs).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Arrives at work consistently on time, in proper uniform, and prepared to perform job functions.
- Learn members’ names and their individual goals each shift.
- Plans, organizes, and presents individualized fitness programs for optimal skill development.
- Educates members on proper exercise form and equipment use, providing intervention and communication when necessary.
- Provides members with spotting support when safe and appropriate.
- Maintains a neat environment by returning equipment after use.
- Stays aware of schedule, staffing, procedures, and environmental changes affecting members’ YMCA experience, and guides members through these changes supportively.
- Models the Y’s values of caring, respect, responsibility, and citizenship, encouraging members to develop these values.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT:
- Adheres to all safety policies, rules, and procedures established by the YMCA.
- Inspects and maintains the work environment to ensure safety and free from hazards.
- Reports all injuries and accidents immediately to the supervisor.
- Reports unsafe acts and conditions to the supervisor promptly.
- Reports to work in an acceptable condition, not under the influence of substances that could impair safety or efficiency.
