Job summary

YMCA of Greater Omaha is seeking a part-time Lifeguard at Armbrust YMCA in Omaha, NE. This role helps maintain a safe pool environment and enforces YMCA safety policies while delivering friendly service to members and guests.

Responsibilities include active pool surveillance, responding to emergencies, performing safety checks, and assisting with facility maintenance. Must meet certification requirements and complete required trainings before first shift.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification and BLS, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration (provided by YMCA, if needed).
• Complete before first shift: YMCA cause & culture training; Aquatics-specific training.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people and successful clearance of background check.
• Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.

• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes necessary actions.
• Identifies and celebrates successes of members and participants.
• Participates in department/branch meetings and trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Lifeguards create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
• Enforces all pool rules and regulations promptly and professionally; notifies the appropriate staff member of any inappropriate behavior.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, guidelines and program standards for the pool and aquatics area.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the health department code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Assists with the general maintenance and upkeep of the aquatics facility.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
• Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
• Actively participates in department and branch meetings and/or trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 15 years of age
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
• Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification and BLS, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration (provided by YMCA, if needed)
• Complete before first shift: YMCA cause & culture training; Aquatics-specific training
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check.
• Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.
• Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift.

• Intermittent use of pool to respond to safety needs and participate in in-service training.
• Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions required.
