YMCA Camp MacLean is now hiring Overnight Camp Counselors for the 2025 Summer Camp Season!
The Overnight Camp Counselor serves as a professional role model for our campers by leading through example and guiding campers through recreational activities that teach life skills, encourage healthy and safe behaviors, and create a positive camper experience. The Overnight Camp Counselor ensures that each youth has adequate supervision, including ensuring that no youth is unsupervised at any time.
Pay range starts at $600 bi-weekly, housing & meals provided

Scope of Responsibilities
Camper Experience
- Promotes the YMCA and provides outstanding customer service by creating an outstanding camper experience for children, parents, and families.
- Leads recreational activities with campers, including arts and crafts, sports, social recreation, songfests, nature hikes, archery, and other hobbies. Instructs campers using various teaching methods and modifies activities as needed to engage all campers.
- Teaches socially acceptable behaviors to campers by serving as a role model and using positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies.
- Communicates regularly with supervisors and team members to keep everyone informed of camp activities and schedules.
- Supports camp activities as assigned, including specialty camp activities.
Camp Safety
- Ensures the physical and emotional health and safety of campers by following YMCA standards and evaluating situations for risks.
- Ensures compliance with rules and regulations, monitors campers and staff, and provides corrective coaching as needed.
- Prepares facilities and equipment for activities and reports unsafe conditions or equipment to the Program Director.
- Maintains cleanliness of camp facilities.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old by the first day of camp.
- Prior experience working with youth; previous camp experience preferred.
- Relevant specialty experience for supporting specialty camps.
- Passion for the YMCA's mission.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse youth and apply age-appropriate instruction and behavior management techniques.
- Proven ability to establish positive relationships and serve as a role model.
- Continuous learner who applies new skills and knowledge.
- Meets physical qualifications as outlined; accommodations available for disabilities.
Child Abuse Prevention
- Report hazards and suspicious behaviors.
- Follow policies for child safety and supervision.
- Complete required child abuse prevention training.
