Hayward Unified School District is seeking Youth Enrichment tutors to reinforce instruction after school, working with individuals or small groups under the Youth Enrichment Site Coordinator. Under the direction of the Youth Enrichment Site Coordinator or assigned supervisor, provide tutoring to reinforce school instruction to individual or small groups of students during after-school activities; observe and control behavior of students enrolled in the Youth Enrichment program during educational and recreational activities.
Please note that some positions are a split shift and require availability from 6-9am AND 12-6pm (30 hour and 22 hour positions require a split shift)
This Class must meet the requirements of the Federal and State "No Child Left Behind" NCLB legislation. Qualifications are any combination equivalent to 48 semester units of college study or an AA Degree or upon passing a NCLB qualifying written examination, and 6 months of experience working with children in an educational or recreational program.
Candidates for this position must be available to work between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Monday - Friday. Most of the assignments are 19 hours per week in the afternoon after students have been released from school, but Wednesdays are early release days and there are occasional minimum days for Hayward students.
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the NCLB guidelines above.
The first step in the process will be an online exam for those applicants that do not submit their transcripts to verify the completion of 48 or more semester units. This will be a multiple choice exam that covers English, Math, and the Ability to Assist. Study materials are available in the Human Resources department. These materials cannot be sent electronically, you will need to stop by in person to obtain them.
For all applicants that have completed 48 or more semester units OR have successfully passed all three sections of the test described above, there will be an online exam with job-specific questions. Your score on the second written exam will determine your rank on the eligibility list. There is no waiver for the second exam.

Positions in the job classification typically work 19-30 hours/week during the assigned school year, traditional or year round schedule.
The duration of the eligibility list is 6 months unless extended by the Executive Director of Classified Human Resources and the Personnel Commission.

Hayward Unified School District will provide a contribution of up to $2,500 per year to be used towards a District healthcare plan or cash in lieu of up to $1,350 per year. Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits unless proof of alternate coverage is provided. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The balance of health benefit costs are paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
Dental coverage is provided free of charge for all employees working 20 hours per week, or more. Family coverage is available and any additional premium will be employee paid.
Classified employees must participate in the CalPERS Retirement program.
All employees are enrolled in an Employee Assistant Program (EAP).
