Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to work with children.
• Good character and emotional stability, including patience, considerateness, even temperament and calmness under stress.
• Current CDL license with proper endorsements including: Air Brake (Class A or B CDL); passenger (P) and school bus (S), or class D with endorsement 3, or willingness to obtain.
• Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).
• Acceptable background check.
• Good work record.
• Previous bus driver or related experience preferred.
• Negative results on pre‑employment drug test.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Director

SUPERVISES: Students on the bus/school vehicle.

POSITION GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate the school bus and other school vehicles in a safe and orderly manner in accordance with all State and Federal regulations and school board policies.
• Conduct pre‑trip inspections on the vehicle and its special equipment.
• Report problems to transportation director.
• Drive the bus route on the established schedule, picking up or letting off students at appropriate points and displaying a positive attitude toward the students.
• Complete all reports as required.
• Conduct appropriate safety drills with students.
• Effectively assist students in evacuating in an emergency.
• Operate two‑way radios.
• Obey all traffic laws.
• Report all accidents and complete required reports.
• Clean assigned bus on a regular schedule or as needed to include the exterior of the bus to facilitate proper visibility.
• Have a good working relationship with all other persons.
• Attend to other duties as may be assigned by the Transportation Director.
• Perform random mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year established by the Board of Education. Pay rate and other benefits as per the negotiated contract.

EVALUATION: Evaluation procedure shall follow Clarke Community School District board policy 411.7.
