Job summary

Portland Public Schools is hiring School Bus Drivers to join our Operations team. This full-year position offers guaranteed hours (40 hours/week in school year, 30 hours/week in summer) and a stable schedule serving our local community.

You will transport students safely on routes and field trips, perform pre/post-trip inspections, and maintain a positive culture aboard the bus. A valid CDL with required endorsements, clean driving record, and HS diploma are required.

Qualifications

• Licensure: Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger, and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Background Check: CHRC authorization through the Maine Department of Education.
• Driving Record: Satisfactory history; no felonies; no DUI; ≤2 moving violations in 24 months.
• Experience: Two to four years driving; prior school bus driving preferred.
• Education: High School or GED required.
• Physical Capability: Pass required physical exams; lift 50 lbs.
• Student Focus: Strong communication and discipline ability.
• Bonus: First Aid and CPR certifications desirable.

Responsibilities

• Transport students safely to and from school on assigned routes.
• Transport students on field trips, outings, and athletic events.
• Safely transport students in wheelchairs and medical equipment as needed.
• Perform standard pre- and post-trip safety inspections and keep vehicle clean.
• Maintain a positive, respectful atmosphere aboard the bus.
