Job summary

Portland Public Schools is hiring School Bus Drivers to join the Operations team in Portland, Maine. The role offers year-round hours with 40 hours per week during the school year and 30 hours per week in summer, plus a 1st shift, permanent assignment, and a BASE union contract.

Responsibilities include transporting students on routes and field trips, assisting with wheelchairs, and performing drive inspections.

Qualifications

• Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• CHRC background check through Maine DOE, cost details in the posting.
• Satisfactory driving record with limited moving violations.
• Two to four years of driving experience; school bus experience preferred.
• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Must pass physical exams and lift at least 50 lbs.
• Strong communication skills and ability to maintain discipline.
• First Aid and CPR certifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school on assigned routes.
• Transport students on field trips and athletic events.
• Transport students in wheelchairs and with medical equipment as needed.
• Perform pre- and post-trip safety inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
• Maintain a positive culture and cooperate with staff and parents.
