Job summary

Carey Forrestdale is seeking a Year Manager who will lead pastoral care and create a connected year group culture while teaching as part of a 0.6 FTE load. Commencing 1 January 2027, the role blends leadership with ongoing classroom practice to influence student wellbeing and school life beyond lessons.

The successful candidate will collaborate with pastoral and wellbeing teams, engage families, and foster a growth mindset while guiding students through their secondary school journey.

Qualifications

• A committed Christian faith and willingness to actively support Carey’s mission, Statement of Faith and values.
• A recognised teaching qualification and current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
• Strong classroom practice and a genuine desire to continue teaching.
• A strong understanding of the educational, social and emotional needs of adolescents.
• Ability to build authentic relationships with young people while maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.
• Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to remain balanced when navigating complex situations.
• Confidence communicating with students, families, colleagues and external professionals.
• Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to manage sensitive information appropriately.
• A collaborative leadership style and willingness to work across pastoral, wellbeing and learning teams.
• A growth mindset and genuine desire to continue developing as an educator and leader.

Responsibilities

• Lead the pastoral care, culture and sense of belonging within your year group.
• Know students beyond academics and support social, emotional and practical realities of secondary school.
• Support consistent and fair approaches to behaviour, attendance and expectations while prioritising student growth.
• Connect students with Counselling, Inclusive Education or other services when appropriate.
• Build relationships with parents and guardians and work together for positive outcomes.
• Develop initiatives to strengthen wellbeing and digital responsibility.
• Lead year meetings, assemblies and other activities to shape year group identity and culture.
• Continue teaching and model excellent classroom practice as part of the teaching allocation.
