Job summary

The Islands Family YMCA in Savannah, GA is seeking a Part-Time Group Leader to supervise children ages 4–14 in the YBASE program during the day. You will implement curriculum, track attendance, and help with sign‑in/out and transportation records.

Responsibilities include supervising groups indoors/outdoors, coordinating transitions, maintaining health and safety standards, and supporting snack and meal distribution under Second Harvest guidelines. Training and staff meetings are required.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Basic understanding of child development principles and appropriate developmental practice.
  • Experience working with school-age children preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprint check in accordance with Bright from the Start Licensing requirements.
  • Basic understanding of computer technology and ability to learn new systems.

  • Implement curriculum provided by the Program Director including setting up interest centers and activities.
  • Assist the Site Director with attendance reports, assigned records and routine clerical tasks.
  • Coordinate the transition of supervision between school day and parent pickup, ensuring sign-in/out of the program and transportation records.
  • If assigned to transportation duties, ensure state requirements are met and maintain bus logs and checklists.
  • Greet and integrate participants into the program and assist with sign-in/out for parent pickup.
  • Assist in housekeeping tasks to sanitize and disinfect YBASE areas and supplies.
  • Distribute snacks and meals in accordance with Second Harvest and YMCA, maintaining meal counts.
  • Treat participants, families and staff with fairness, dignity and respect; uphold professionalism.
  • Report suspicions of child abuse as a Mandated Reporter and document appropriately.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings; follow YBASE policies and procedures.
  • Maintain state and YMCA training hour requirements annually.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

General Summary

The YBASE Group Leader is responsible for the leadership, guidance, support and supervision of children ages 4–14 years of age in the day‑to‑day operation of the YBASE Program. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character – caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Essential Functions and Duties
  • Engage actively while interacting with and supervising groups of children indoors/outdoors.
  • Implement curriculum provided by the Program Director to include setting up interest centers and gross motor equipment and activities indoors and outdoors.
  • Assist the Site Director in maintaining daily attendance reports, assigned records and other routine clerical tasks.
  • Coordinate the transition of supervision between school day and parent pickup, ensuring children are properly signed in/out of the program and, if being transported by the YMCA, maintain accurate transportation records.
  • If assigned to transportation duties, ensure all state requirements are met, including proper supervision and maintaining accurate bus logs and checklists.
  • Greet and integrate participants into the program and prepare children for parent pickup by assisting them with gathering supplies and signing in and out of the program.
  • Assist the Site Director with general housekeeping tasks to include sanitizing and disinfecting YBASE areas and supplies to maintain health and safety standards.
  • Work with the Site Director to distribute snacks and meals in accordance with the regulations set forth by Second Harvest and the YMCA, including maintaining accurate meal counts. Submit snack counts and attendance to Second Harvest and cafeteria manager.
  • Treat participants, families and staff with fairness, dignity and respect, including but not limited to tone and all verbal communication.
  • Uphold YMCA standards of professionalism in conduct, dress, and decorum.
  • Participate in program feedback initiatives and family engagement events.
  • Report suspicions of child abuse and/or neglect as a Mandated Reporter and provide documentation.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in‑service training programs as directed.
  • Follow and maintain YBASE policies and procedures.
  • Maintain state and YMCA training hour requirements annually.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.
  • Assist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCA.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Basic understanding of current child development principles and appropriate developmental practice.
  • Experience in working with school‑age children preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and fingerprint check in accordance with Bright from the Start Licensing requirements.
  • Basic understanding of computer technology and ability to learn new systems.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • CPR and First Aid required within 90 days of employment.
  • 18 Bright From the Start approved training hours per year must be achieved and maintained.
  • If assigned to transportation responsibilities, maintain the state required transportation safety training.
Education and/or Experience
