Yard Waste Attendant - SW (Solid Waste) - Seasonal

Join us as a Yard Waste Attendant - SW (Solid Waste) - Seasonal at City of Grand Island.

Job Overview

Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Compost Site, Transfer Station, Landfill, and related facilities.

Essential Functions
  • Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior with customers and staff.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Maintain punctual and dependable attendance.
  • Assist customers with inquiries and direct them to appropriate staff.
  • Inspect incoming loads of yard waste and estimate volumes for recordkeeping.
  • Ensure yard waste is properly disposed of; direct other materials to the Transfer Station.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, data entry, and correspondence.
  • Assist in other department sections as needed.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Of
  • Methods, techniques, and procedures related to the responsibilities.
  • Principles of accounting, recordkeeping, and reporting.
Ability To
  • Implement and maintain filing and accounting systems.
  • Work effectively without close supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Interact positively with the public under various conditions.
Additional Information

Experience: No experience required; experience with public relations is preferred. Must be 18+ years old.

Training: Education or training sufficient for reading and writing at a functional level.

License/Certification: None required.

Site Hours: Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Work Hours: Varying hours Monday through Saturday, depending on departmental needs. Position duration: March through November.

Salary: Starting at the entry level of the City's salary table, with consideration for experience.
