Job summary

Kirby Corporation is seeking a safety‑mocused Yard Utility at the Brazos River Fueling Facility in Freeport, TX. You will transfer fuels and lubricants to vessels and trucks, track paperwork, and perform maintenance while following safety protocols.

Responsibilities include delivering/receiving fuels, keeping areas clean, conducting inspections, and performing emergency response duties. Training is provided; high school diploma or GED preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • No experience required; training will be provided.
  • Valid driver’s license required to operate company vehicles.
  • Basic reading and writing skills; good communication.
  • Basic computer skills (email, texting, scanning).

  • Deliver/receive fuel, lube, and supplies for marine vessels.
  • Keep fuel area clean and maintain tank/truck rack condition.
  • Regulatory inspections for USCG, SPCC, TGLO.
  • Perform emergency response duties.
  • Inspect pumps, hoses, and transfer equipment.
  • Facility maintenance including mowing and weed eating.
  • Janitorial duties of office/restrooms.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job description

Overview

Kirby is looking for a safety focused and dependable Yard Utility employee at the Brazos River Fueling Facility in Freeport, TX. This employee must be able to safely transfer fuels and lube oil to marine vessels and trucks and track the paperwork associated with the transfers. This position also includes facility and vehicle maintenance as well and work associated with barge fleeting. You must be a team player as well as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver/receive fuel, lube, and other supplies for marine vessels.
  • Keep fuel area clean and maintain good tank/truck rack condition.
  • Perform regulatory compliance functions such as touring inspections for the USCG, SPCC, TGLO
  • Be able to perform emergency response duties
  • Inspect and upkeep of pumps, hoses, and equipment used to transfer cargo.
  • Facility maintenance and upkeep including mowing and weed eating (operating zero turn mower and tractor)
  • Janitorial duties of office including bathroom.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to drive company vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to attend company-required training
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to use firefighter equipment
  • Ability to use spill containment equipment

Physical Activities & Requirements:

  • Employee will be subject to a physical examination by a Kirby Corporation-appointed physician in the event Kirby Corporation extends a conditional offer of employment.
  • Ability to walk 2-3 miles per day.
  • Ability to step vertical heigh differential approximately two feet vertical and two feet horizontal.
  • Ability to step across, up, down, or over an obstacle to gain access to docks from the barge to the boat or from boat to the dock.
  • Ability to extend arms fully, throughout a normal range of motion both in a horizontal and vertical plane.
  • Ability to throw and catch lines.
  • Ability to climb 25-30 feet, 90-degree vertical ladder.
  • Ability to lift approximately 60-75 pounds and carry it approximately 500 feet.
  • Ability to pass pulmonary function test with a minimum score of 80% with physician’s approval.
  • Ability to perform all duties while wearing personal protective equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work a Monday-Friday Schedule up to 10 hours a day
  • On call weekend and night rotation required
  • Comfortable working around water
  • May be exposed to harsh natural elements, such as intense heat, freezing cold, rain, ice, sleet, and various other environmental conditions.
