Job summary

FedEx Corporation is seeking a Switcher/Package Handler to move trailers in the yard and assist with loading and unloading packages. You will coordinate movements, inspect equipment, and follow safety protocols while working in a fast-paced team environment.

Day-to-day duties include sorting packages by labels and numbers, and operating related yard equipment. Minimum experience is not required, but six months in package handling or CDL switching is preferred; a valid driver's license and a DOT

Qualifications

• No education required.
• Six (6) months of experience as a package handler or switching/CDL operator experience preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow safety instructions and work duties.
• Ability to sort packages by reading labels, numbers and charts.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs trailer switches by hooking and moving a parked trailer from the yard to a load/unload door or from a door to the yard.
• Coordinates trailer movements with management or central control.
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Follows yard switching safety processes and procedures.
• Loads and unloads packages onto or from delivery vehicles, trailers, carts and load gratings.
• Lifts and carries packages repeatedly for two to four hour shifts.
