Job summary

FedEx is seeking a Switcher/Package Handler to help move trailers within the yard and assist with loading, unloading, and sorting packages. The role includes coordinating trailer movements, performing basic inspections, and ensuring safe, efficient operations in a fast-paced environment.

Experience is not required, though six months in package handling or switcher/CDL operations may be preferred. A valid driver’s license and DOT file are required, along with the ability to read labels and

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers to and from unload/load doors and throughout the yard.
• Hook and move trailers from yard to door or door to yard.
• Coordinate trailer movements with management or central control.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Load and unload packages onto/from delivery vehicles and related equipment.
• Sort packages by scanning, reading labels, and memorizing numbers.
