Job summary

FedEx is seeking a Yard Switcher/Package Handler in New Jersey. You will move trailers between yards and doors, coordinate with central control, and document movements using the Yard Management System. Prior experience is optional, but valid CDL and DOT compliance are required where applicable.

You will perform pre- and post-trip checks, handle packages, and operate scanning equipment. This role involves physical tasks, safety adherence, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.
• Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information in order to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perges trailer switches: hook and move a parked trailer from yard to load/unload door or from door to yard.
• Communicate with management/central control to coordinate trailer movements.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Load and unload packages onto/from delivery vehicles, trailers, or carts.
• Sort packages by scanning labels and numbers.
