Job summary

SA Recycling in the United States is seeking an Inspector Supervisor to oversee yard activities, inspect materials from suppliers, and manage trucking flow. This role emphasizes safety, yard organization, and reliable leadership for a busy outdoor environment.

You will back up the General Manager, cover 40+ hours weekly including Saturdays, train staff, monitor production levels, and ensure efficient material handling. Advancement opportunities exist across coast-to-coast locations.

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical, physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check and credit check.
• Preferred - high school diploma or GED.
• Prior scrap metal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily yard activities and supervise all yard personnel.
• Inspect materials received from suppliers for quality and compliance.
• Monitor and guide truck traffic flow in and out of the yard.
• Provide leadership to promote a safe working environment and yard organization.
• Train employees using methods such as email, bulletins and work assignments.
• Communicate effectively in morning tailgates and safety meetings.
• Back up the General Manager as needed to meet operational goals.
• Ensure proper labor coverage for production and maintenance.
• Keep work areas neat and orderly and maintain regular attendance.

The Yard Inspector Supervisor is a working supervisor role and will have responsibility for guiding the daily work activities of all yard personnel, inspecting materials received from our suppliers, and monitoring and guiding the flow of truck traffic. You will provide leadership and guidance in the promotion of a safe working environment, yard organization, inventory handling and control, obtainment of operational goals, and backing up the General Manager as needed. This position requires the flexibility to work 40+ hours per week, and on Saturdays as needed.

Responsibilities of an Inspection Supervisor

• Complete a weekly safety inspection of their department
• Conduct safety conversations with employees
• Monitor production levels as assigned
• Ensure there is proper labor coverage for production and maintenance
• Train employees in various ways e.g. email, bulletins, shipping documents, work assignments, production quotas
• Communicate to a workforce in morning tailgate and safety meetings (public speaking)
• Provide client services in person or over the phone to ensure new metal materials are purchased daily
• Work with employees and clients to ensure all conflicts and negotiations are handled in professional manner
• Clean up work area at the end of shift
• Keep work areas neat and orderly
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions
• Organizing materials to have more effective use of space
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner
• Inspection material and ensure proper material is purchased and directed to be placed in yard for proper processing
• Perform all other duties as assigned
