Job summary

Buchheit Metals in Herculaneum, MO is seeking a Yard Load Builder to assemble lumber and construction materials for customer orders. You may operate a forklift to move and load items, and help keep the yard safe and organized.

This role is offered as both part-time and full-time in a fast-paced retail environment. You will assist customers, load merchandise onto delivery trucks, and perform daily forklift inspections while adhering to safety and loss-prevention procedures.

Responsibilities

• Read work orders and loads per instructions.
• Operate forklift or industrial truck to move merchandise.
• Load merchandise onto delivery trucks for delivery or transfer.
• Assist with unloading deliveries as needed.
• Verify quality and quantity of resold-able products from returns.
• Track lumber and cut/mod as needed.
• Place boards in racks by grade and length.
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise.
• Maintain yard and racks in order and clean.
• Complete daily forklift inspections.
• Follow loss prevention and inventory procedures.
• Maintain safety and address hazards.
• Communicate customer issues to staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Load Builder is responsible for compiling loads of lumber and other construction materials for customer orders. They often operate a forklift or industrial truck to assist in moving and loading materials and products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Reads work order, invoice, or follows oral instructions to determine materials or containers needing moved, gathered, and/or loaded
• Operate forklift or industrial truck to assist in loading or moving merchandise and materials
• Load merchandise on to store delivery trucks for delivery or transfer
• Assist with unloading deliveries, as necessary
• Confirm quality, confirm quantity, and put away resell-able products from jobsite returns
• Track and cull / cut & mod lumber as needed
• Remove lumber from units and place boards in rack, according to grade and length
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise
• Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner
• Complete daily forklift inspections
• Adhere to Loss Prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures
• Safety awareness of anything in store that may be hazard to employees or customers
• Effectively communicates customer issues and concerns to all applicable internal staff members
• Additional duties, as assigned
