Job summary

Florida-State-Fence is looking for a Yard Manager to supervise yard operations, coordinate inbound/outbound shipments, and ensure safety and efficiency on site. You will lead a team, manage inventory, and enforce safety standards in a fast-changing construction materials environment.

The role requires strong leadership, organization, and communication skills, with a focus on reliability, safety, and customer service in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

Position Overview

The Yard Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of a company’s yard, including supervising staff, coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, and ensuring the safety and organization of the yard. They are key in ensuring efficient movement of materials and equipment, dispatching, maintaining a clean and safe working environment, and adhering to company policies and safety regulations.

Role and Responsibilities

• C oordinating daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery, and personnel
• Delegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members
• Monitor productivity, accuracy, and adherence to procedures
• Ensure proper storage, rotation, and handling of inventory to prevent damage and maintain accessibility
• Oversee timely and accurate loading and unloading of trucks
• Lead by example in maintaining a clean, hazard-free yard and safe equipment operation
• Ensure team members are properly trained and certified to operate equipment
• Respond to accidents or near misses in accordance with company incident procedures
• Emphasizing safe use of tools, machinery and equipment while providing training on safety gear and procedures
• Serve as a key point of contact for resolving yard-related service issues

Required Skills

• Strong working knowledge of building materials, construction supply products, and safe handling practices
• Foster a respectful and collaborative team environment that prioritizes safety, accountability, and service
• Ability to lead and motivate a team while holding employees accountable to safety and operation standards

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work outdoors in all weather conditions, and operate heavy machinery
• Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards in a yard operation environment
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in building materials yard, warehouse, or distribution environment
• Proficient in relevant computer applications

Preferred Skills:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
