Job description

RDS of Virginia, LLC is a well-established company whose core business is recycling, processing, and marketing of materials. RDS operates five different facilities across three different states, servicing the recycling needs of thousands of companies and households. RDS is committed to recovering as much material as possible from the waste stream for both the short- and long-term health of our environment.

Job Summary

Yard jockeys are at the center of logistics operations, responsible for the precise maneuvering of open-top dumpsters and assisting with docking. The Yard Jockey usually consists of moving dumpsters to and from throughout the yard at the plant.

Yard jockeys are also often expected to:

  • Assist with docking dumpsters
  • Inspect containers
  • Perform yard checks
  • Fill out necessary delivery forms and paperwork
  • Clean out empty dumpsters
  • Keep the yard clear of debris and trash

Being a yard jockey requires a specific skill set to perform the job efficiently and safely. Some essential skills that a yard jockey should have include:

  • Strong driving skills: Yard jockeys must have excellent driving skills as they are responsible for maneuvering both small and large dumpsters around tight spaces.
  • Good physical stamina: The job can be physically demanding, with duties including hitching and unhitching dumpsters.
  • Attention to detail: Yard jockeys must have a keen eye for detail while inspecting containers, performing yard checks and handling delivery forms and paperwork.

Status: Full-Time (36-40 hours per week). Monday-Friday. Weekend work may be required (as needed). Hourly. Non-Exempt.

Education and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years recent related experience in heavy equipment operation (preferred); experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment
  • Having a clean driving record and solid work history

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug/alcohol screen, and physical ability test
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant operations
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking
  • Must be able to lift to 40+ pounds at times
