Yard Jockey - Overnight Shift (Transportation)

Yard Jockeys are responsible for moving company vehicles throughout the facility yard, including moving trucks in and out of dock doors for loading and unloading procedures. They must ensure safe driving practices are followed at all times, check for vehicle damages or maintenance issues, and report any findings to dispatch.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Ability to write reports.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Sitting (10-20 minute intervals, multiple times per day).
  • Standing (5-10 minute intervals).
  • Walking to and from trucks in the yard.
  • Work night hours and be available on weekends.
  • Flexible to work assigned shifts based on business needs.
  • Maintain three points of contact with steps and truck to safely enter and exit.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety of the truck fleet and prevent damage during parking or movement.
  • Check trucks for damages and report any findings to the supervisor.
  • Report suspicious persons or events on or around the property.
  • Arrange truck parking in an orderly and convenient manner.
  • Move trucks to and from loading docks and leasing companies for repairs.
  • Verify proper permits, paperwork, and operational equipment in trucks.
  • Ensure vehicle keys are returned and left in the truck.
  • Manage truck back roll-up doors and secure equipment, adjusting for weather conditions.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, and follow instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, and walk as specified.
  • Availability for night shifts and weekends.
  • Maintain three points of contact when entering/exiting trucks.
  • Flexible with shift assignments based on business needs.
