Job summary

Sharps Medical Waste Services is hiring for a yard/transport roles in Maryland. You will move and stage trailers, perform routine inspections, and support dispatch with DOT-documented reporting. A Class A CDL with at least 2 years of tractor-trailer experience is preferred.

The role requires working a rotating 3 days on / 3 days off schedule, including weekends, holidays, and some night shifts. Candidates should be comfortable outdoors and in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL required with valid DOT Medical Card.
• Minimum of 2 years tractor-trailer driving experience preferred.
• Experience operating Yard Jockey or terminal tractors preferred; training provided.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices.

Responsibilities

• Safely move, stage, and position trailers to support daily operations.
• Perform yard management and trailer spotting for efficiency.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report maintenance concerns.
• Operate Yard Jockey, tractor-trailers, Roll-Off trucks and similar vehicles.
• Provide coverage for Long-Haul and Roll-Off routes during vacations or needs.
• Learn dispatch tasks, including weighing trucks and logs for reporting.
• Complete DOT logs, manifests, and transportation documentation.
• Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and company safety policies.
• Communicate transportation needs and changes with dispatch and operations.
• Use ELD systems for accurate reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely move, stage, and position trailers throughout the facility yard to support daily operations.


• Perform routine trailer spotting and yard management activities to maintain efficient workflow.


• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly.


• Operate Yard Jockey trucks, tractor-trailers, Roll-Off trucks, and other commercial vehicles as assigned.


• Provide coverage for Long-Haul Driver routes during vacations, absences, and special transportation assignments.


• Provide coverage for Roll-Off Driver routes during scheduled vacations and operational needs.


• Learn and perform dispatch functions, including weighing trucks and trailers in and out of the facility.


• Provide dispatch coverage during breaks and lunches as needed.


• Complete all required DOT logs, inspection reports, manifests, and transportation documentation.


• Maintain compliance with all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety requirements.


• Communicate effectively with dispatch, operations, and facility personnel regarding transportation needs, route changes, and operational concerns.


• Utilize ELD (Electronic Driver Log) systems for accurate reporting and compliance.


• Other duties as needed.

Requirements

• Class A CDL required.


• Minimum of 2 years of tractor-trailer driving experience preferred.


• Experience operating tractor-trailers, Yard Jockey trucks, terminal tractors, or similar commercial vehicles preferred.


• Roll-Off truck experience preferred but not required; training will be provided.


• Valid DOT Medical Card.


• Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle records check.


• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices.


• Ability to work a rotating 3 days on / 3 days off schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional night shift coverage.


• Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.


• Ability to lift, push, pull, or handle containers and equipment of varying weight.


• Ability to exert up to 150 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.


• May require mandatory immunizations and credentialing based on customer requirements.
