Job summary

Sharps Medical Waste Services is seeking a licensed CDL Class A driver to join our national logistics team in Petersburg, VA. You will start early, complete Class A routes, and support yard operations and route pickups as needed.

This hands-on role requires a clean MVR, DMV compliance, and the ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment. You will use GPS/handheld devices, complete DOT logs where applicable, and uphold safety procedures while loading and unloading vehicles.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

• Start early daily and complete assigned Class A commercial driving routes.
• Move yard trailers and provide roll-off support at least 2 days per week.
• Cover route-based pickups as needed.
• Ensure waste, supplies, and material handling equipment are secured prior to operating the vehicle on public highways.
• Complete all paperwork legibly, accurately, and submit to Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher.
• Complete Department of Transportation (DOT) Driver Logs if applicable.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned vehicles; report maintenance issues to Transportation/Dispatcher.
• Follow all safety procedures to protect yourself and others while driving, loading, and unloading vehicles.
• Push/pull up to 150 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently.
• Utilize Global Positioning System (GPS) and handheld devices for navigation, Electronic Logging Device (ELD) logs, and Electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
• Maintain current Medical Examiner’s Certification (MEC).
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 25 years or older with driving experience.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A required.
• Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Completion of an accredited driving school or one or more years of commercial driving experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Proficiency using technology such as GPS and handheld devices.
• Flexibility to assist in warehouse tasks and cover routes as needed.
• Must work safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others.
• May require mandatory immunizations and credentialing based on customer requirements.
