Job summary

Taylor Farms in Orlando, FL is seeking a Yard Jockey/Transfer Driver to support daily shipping and receiving tasks, coordinating with Dispatch, Transportation and Warehouse to position trailers at doors and in the yard as needed. You will ensure proper temperatures, asset condition and safe, organized yards for outbound moves.

Requirements include a CDL-A, 2+ years of continuous driving experience and the ability to operate yard equipment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Transport and position loaded/unloaded trailers with a tractor to proper storage location or dock door.

• Maintain continuous communication with dispatch/warehouse to ensure moves occur in the correct order.
• Assist other drivers and perform additional duties as assigned.

Job description

The Yard Jockey/Transfer Driver is responsible for helping complete daily shipping and receiving tasks. They are responsible for working with the Dispatch team, transportation and warehouse to ensure assets are positioned correctly in various dock doors and yard locations as well as support need in warehouse. The Yard Jockey helps ensure our assets are in good working condition, storage and outbound trailers are holding appropriate temperatures, and the shipping yard remains organized. This position is part of the transportation organization reporting to the Transportation Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for transporting and positioning loaded and unloaded trailers with a tractor (yard dog/spotter, day cab, sleeper) to the proper storage location or dock door in the yard as directed by Transportation clerks and/or Warehouse.
• Ensures trailer/product temperatures are set correctly and reports any discrepancy if actual temperature is above or below set temperature. Temperatures vary on product type.
• Ensures assets are in clean, working condition. Documents and reports any accidents or damage to product, vehicles, trailers, or other company property to a supervisor immediately.
• Maintain continuous communication with dispatch/warehouse to ensure all moves are completed in correct order.
• Assists other drivers and performs other duties as assigned
• Attend scheduled safety, team meetings and training sessions.
• Comply with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
• Able to use tablet that includes yard command software for making moves my priority in a safe efficient manner

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong organizational and communication skills. Proficiently reads, writes, and speaks English.
• Must know addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
• Must have valid driver’s license (CDL-A for tractor trailer) and clean driving record last 2 years.
• Minimum of 2 years of continuous driving experience required

ABILITIES

• Ability to operate a pallet jacket and forklift
• Ability operate multiple types of vehicles including Yard Spotter/Truck, Day Cab, Sleeper Tractor with either manual or automatic transmissions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., frequently perform heavy pushing/pulling.
• Ability to work outside year-round and successfully complete all required tasks regardless of weather conditions.
• Must be flexible with schedule and willing to do deliveries (within one hundred air miles) if called upon.
• Motivated to complete work with positive results without direct supervision.
• Professional attire required and ability to represent the company in a positive manner.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple competing tasks/demands
