Job summary

Triad Metals International is seeking a Yard Inventory Manager for its Petersburg, VA processing and distribution facility. The role oversees outdoor yard material control, receiving, storage, movement, and documentation of raw materials and finished goods, with emphasis on accuracy and safety.

The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy industrial material handling, knowledge of structural steel products, and proficiency with inventory systems; experience with Enmark is a plus.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead daily yard operations to ensure efficient flow of raw and finished steel materials.
• Oversee unloading, inspection, and verification of incoming steel products; confirm counts, sizes, grades, heat numbers, and mill certifications.
• Maintain real-time inventory records; perform cycle counts; reconcile discrepancies; ensure traceability from receipt to shipment.
• Tag and identify materials with grade, size, heat number, job assignment, and yard location.
• Optimize yard layout for safe equipment movement and efficient staging for processing centers.
• Coordinate with production to stage raw materials and move finished goods per priorities.
• Manage bundling, staging, and preparation of completed parts for outbound shipment or internal transfer.
• Ensure safe operation and daily inspection of forklifts, yard cranes, loaders, and rigging equipment; coordinate maintenance.
• Enforce OSHA and company safety standards; conduct daily yard safety checks.
• Supervise yard personnel; assign tasks; train staff on safety and inventory procedures.

Yard Inventory Manager

Established in 1987, Triad Metals is a privately held, independent company that has grown to become one of the premier wholesale distributors and processors of structural steel, tubing, pipe, piling and plate products. With six locations in the United States and Canada, Triad Metals is actively seeking a Yard Inventory Manager.

Triad Metals International is currently seeking a Yard Inventory Manager for its Processing and Distribution facility in Petersburg, VA. The Yard Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing all outdoor yard material‑control functions within a high‑volume steel processing environment. This role manages the receipt, identification, storage, movement, and documentation of raw materials-including H‑beams, sheet pile, plate, and structural shapes-as well as finished products staged for shipment. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, experience with heavy industrial material handling, and a commitment to safety and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Yard Operations Management - Lead daily yard operations, ensuring efficient flow of raw and finished steel materials. Maintain clean, organized, and clearly labeled storage zones.
• Inbound Material Control - Oversee unloading, inspection, and verification of incoming steel products. Confirm counts, sizes, grades, heat numbers, and mill certifications.
• Inventory Accuracy & Traceability - Maintain real‑time inventory records; perform cycle counts; reconcile discrepancies; ensure full traceability from receipt through processing and shipment.
• Material Identification & Tagging - Ensure all materials are properly tagged with grade, size, heat number, job assignment, and yard location.
• Yard Layout & Material Flow - Optimize yard layout for safe equipment movement, crane access, and efficient staging for processing centers.
• Coordination With Production - Work closely with plasma, laser, beveling, and fabrication departments to stage raw materials and move finished goods according to production priorities.
• Finished Goods Handling - Manage bundling, staging, and preparation of completed parts for outbound shipment or internal transfer.
• Equipment Oversight - Ensure safe operation and daily inspection of forklifts, yard cranes, loaders, and rigging equipment. Coordinate maintenance and repairs.
• Safety & Compliance - Enforce OSHA and company safety standards. Conduct daily yard safety checks and ensure proper rigging, lifting, and load‑securement practices.
• Team Leadership - Supervise yard personnel; assign tasks; train staff on safe material handling, inventory procedures, and equipment operation.

Qualifications

• Experience in steel yard operations or heavy industrial material‑handling
• Strong knowledge of structural steel products (H‑beams, sheet pile, plate, shapes)
• Proficiency with inventory management systems, Enmark is a plus
• Ability to operate and oversee forklifts and yard cranes
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in steel processing, fabrication, or distribution
• ERP experience
• Prior supervisory experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, and operate equipment throughout the shift
• Comfortable working in an outdoor industrial yard with heavy equipment and large steel products
