Primary purpose: Safely assemble packages of various building materials from the lumberyard inventory and stage the materials for delivery to customers. Assist customers in loading their materials while providing a high level of customer service.

Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Building Material Assembly: Expertly assemble packages of building materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness according to customer orders and inventory records.
  • Loading and Unloading: Safely load packages onto delivery trucks and unload materials from vendors’ trucks or railcars with precision and attention to detail.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in stocking inventory of products, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the availability of materials for customer orders.
  • Work Area Maintenance: Keep the work area neat, clean, and organized, adhering to safety protocols and optimizing efficiency in material handling operations.
  • Customer Interaction: Interact with customers and subcontractors in a friendly and courteous manner, providing assistance with loading materials and addressing any inquiries or concerns.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Adjust approach to fill demands on the fly, demonstrating versatility, self-motivation, and a team-oriented mindset to meet the needs of the lumberyard operations.
  • Physical Stamina: Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials, ensuring efficiency and safety in task execution.
  • Tool Familiarity: Utilize hand and power tools effectively and safely, demonstrating familiarity with their use in building material assembly and handling tasks.

Requirements

  • Material Identification: Capable of learning to identify various grades of lumber and building materials, ensuring accuracy in assembly and inventory management.
