Job summary

DSV – Global Transport and Logistics is hiring a Yard Driver in Richardson, TX. You will move trailers and equipment, perform safety inspections, and coordinate with dispatch to keep yard operations efficient.

The role requires a Class A CDL, DOT compliance, and 2+ years of driving experience. Expect day, night, and weekend shifts with home daily and a comprehensive benefits package including a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL
• DOT qualification per FMCSR Part 391, with current Medical Certificate
• Minimum 2 years of verified commercial driving in past 4 years; 3+ years preferred
• Basic computer and ELD proficiency
• Clean motor vehicle record and employment history
• No recent DUI/DWI or major traffic violations
• Ability to obtain and maintain company yard certification and safety training

Responsibilities

• Move trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard to loading docks and parking areas
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard equipment and report defects
• Ensure trailers are secured, chocked, sealed, and docked per safety procedures
• Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse, and operations to prioritize moves and dock assignments
• Maintain yard location tracking using YMS, tablets, or logs
• Verify trailer numbers, seals, and load documents before movement
• Assist in yard organization and staging of trailers
• Monitor yard hazards and report safety or security issues
• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of yard equipment
• Comply with safety rules and company policies; support peak shipping/receiving periods
• Perform other duties as assigned

Duties & Responsibilities

• Move trailers, containers, and equipment to and from loading docks, staging areas, and parking locations within the yard.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard tractors, trailers, and equipment and report defects or damage.
• Ensure trailers are properly secured, chocked, sealed, and docked according to safety procedures.
• Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse staff, and operations personnel to prioritize trailer moves and dock assignments.
• Maintain accurate yard location tracking using yard management systems (YMS), tablets, handheld devices, or written logs.
• Verify trailer numbers, seals, and load documentation prior to movement.
• Assist in yard organization, including staging empty and loaded trailers in designated areas.
• Monitor yard conditions and immediately report safety hazards, equipment issues, or security concerns.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned yard tractor and equipment.
• Comply with company policies, OSHA safety standards, and site-specific safety procedures.
• Support shipping and receiving operations during peak periods as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Meet all DOT qualification requirements under FMCSR Part 391, including maintaining a current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Minimum of two (2) years of verified commercial driving experience within the past four (4) years; three (3) or more years preferred.
• Basic computer and electronic logging device (ELD) proficiency.
• Satisfactory motor vehicle record and employment history.
• No positive drug or alcohol test within the past five (5) years.
• No DUI, DWI, reckless driving conviction, or speeding violation of 12 MPH or more over the posted speed limit within the past five (5) years.
• No preventable accident involving bodily injury within the past three (3) years.

Work Experience & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Previous yard driver, hostler, shuttler, warehouse, or transportation experience strongly preferred.
• Experience operating a yard tractor, terminal tractor, or similar equipment preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain company yard certification and safety training.
• Class – A license required
• Basic understanding of trailer types, coupling/uncoupling procedures, and dock operations preferred.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.

This position requires frequent sitting while operating a yard tractor and frequent entering and exiting the vehicle throughout the shift. The employee must be able to climb in and out of equipment, couple and uncouple trailers, and perform inspections that involve bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and walking on uneven surfaces. The role requires the ability to lift and move items up to approximately 50 pounds occasionally and to work in tight spaces around docks and trailers.

The Yard Driver primarily works outdoors in a busy transportation yard or terminal environment and is regularly exposed to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and diesel fumes. The position requires working around loading docks, trailers, and warehouse operations and may involve day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts based on business needs.

For this position, the expected pay is $25.00 hour, which include $2.00 shift deffirential. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy. eligible drivers can earn a $5,000 Sign-On & Retention Bonus based on continued employment and the terms of the bonus program.
