Job summary

DSV – Global transport and logistics in Northlake is seeking a NON CDL Yard Driver (AM) to move trailers and equipment safely within the yard and support loading, unloading and dock staging. You will coordinate with dispatch and warehouse staff while upholding DOT and safety standards.

The full-time role offers $22.00–$23.00 per hour, a $2K sign-on/retention bonus, overtime potential, and daily home time. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k) with match, PTO, and paid

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous yard driver, hostler, shuttler, warehouse, or transportation experience.
• Experience operating a yard tractor or terminal tractor preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain yard certification and safety training.
• Basic understanding of trailer types, coupling/uncoupling, and dock operations.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers, containers, and equipment to and from loading docks, staging areas, and parking locations within the yard.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report defects or damage.
• Ensure proper securing, chocking, sealing, and docking of trailers per safety procedures.
• Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse staff, and operations to prioritize moves and dock assignments.
• Verify trailer numbers, seals, and load documentation before movement.

Role Summary
The Yard Driver,is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard, terminal, and facility property. This position supports daily transportation and warehouse operations by positioning equipment for loading and unloading, maintaining yard organization, and ensuring equipment readiness. The Yard Driver follows company safety standards, DOT regulations (as applicable), and site-specific procedures to support on-time freight movement and operational efficiency.

Annual gross wage of $50,000 - $55,000, dependent on shift and own personal performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Move trailers, containers, and equipment to and from loading docks, staging areas, and parking locations within the yard.

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard tractors, trailers, and equipment and report defects or damage.

Ensure trailers are properly secured, chocked, sealed, and docked according to safety procedures.

Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse staff, and operations personnel to prioritize trailer moves and dock assignments.

Verify trailer numbers, seals, and load documentation prior to movement.

Assist in yard organization, including staging empty and loaded trailers in designated areas.

Monitor yard conditions and immediately report safety hazards, equipment issues, or security concerns.

Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned yard tractors and equipment.

Comply with company policies, OSHA safety standards, and site-specific safety procedures.

Support shipping and receiving operations during peak periods as directed.

Perform other duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Work Experience & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Previous yard driver, hostler, shuttler, warehouse, or transportation experience

Experience operating a yard tractor, terminal tractor, or similar equipment strongly preferred.

Ability to obtain and maintain company yard certification and safety training.

Basic understanding of trailer types, coupling/uncoupling procedures, and dock operations preferred.

Ability to work on flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.

Physical Demands

This position requires frequent sitting while operating a yard tractor and frequent entering and exiting the vehicle throughout the shift. The employee must be able to climb in and out of equipment, couple and uncouple trailers, and perform inspections

For this position, the expected base pay range is $ 22.00 - $23.00 Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy. In addition, eligible drivers can earn a $5,000 Sign-On & Retention Bonus based on continued employment and the terms of the bonus program.
