United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) is seeking a Yard Driver in Mechanicsville, VA. CDL is not required.

Work is on-site with a 1pm–11:30pm schedule on Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, totaling 10.5 hours per shift. The role involves moving tractors and trailers, starting refrigeration units, and preparing trucks for local deliveries. You will cover for drivers, coordinate with warehouse staff, and ensure proper vehicle pre- and post-trip procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid state-issued driver's license required.
• Warehouse/transportation experience a plus.
• Good judgment required when supervision may not be readily available.

Responsibilities

• Set tractor-trailer combinations for loading and delivery.
• Start refrigeration units and monitor them.
• Pull loaded trailers, secure doors, and move units as needed.
• Coordinate loading schedules with warehouse supervisors.
• Ensure pre-trip inspections are completed before departure.
• Notify drivers of potential late loads.
• Refuel returning trucks as necessary.
• Make local deliveries and cover routes in emergencies.
• Assist with unloading/cleaning trailers as needed.
• Operate pallet jacks and forklifts when required.
• Shuttle trucks to/from rental facilities when needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job Overview

Responsible for moving tractors and trailers on the premises, starting refrigeration units, preparing trucks for deliveries. Covers for drivers and makes local deliveries when necessary.

What does it mean to be part of the Non-Commercial Yard Driver team?

Our Non-Commercial Yard Drivers are responsible for moving tractors and trailers on the premises, starting refrigeration units, and preparing trucks for deliveries. The yard truck operator is also responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of on-hand inventory and positioning while ensuring that the tractors have been pre and post tripped as well as refueled once back in the yard. They must also prepare tractor trailer combinations for loading products that are scheduled for delivery and coordinate loading schedules with warehouse supervisors while handling an abundance of additional responsibilities given at the direction of the transportation leadership team.

Job Responsibilities

• Sets tractor trailer combinations for loading product scheduled for delivery.
• Starts refrigeration units; checks units periodically.
• Pulls loaded trailers away from dock and secures trailer doors.
• Coordinates loading schedules with warehouse supervisors.
• Ensures trucks have received pre-trip inspection prior to driver departure.
• Notifies drivers of potential late load situations.
• Ensures returning trucks are refueled, if necessary.
• Makes local deliveries, as necessary and covers various routes in emergency (book-off) situations.
• Assists warehouse personnel with unloading/cleaning trailers.
• Operates powered industrial equipment such as electric pallet jacks and forklifts, as necessary.
• Shuttles trucks to and from truck rental facilities if necessary.
• Performs other duties as necessary and required.

Job Requirements

• Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available

UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements.
