Job Title: Yard & Dock Coordinator

Position Summary

The Yard & Dock Coordinator is a critical hybrid role responsible for managing real-time yard and dock operations to ensure optimal trailer movement, efficient door utilization, and minimal dwell times. This position combines yard accounting, dock door management, and driver dispatch coordination, requiring strong planning, communication, and multitasking skills. This is a hands-on, non-office role that involves being active in the yard and dock area throughout the shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and update the Dock Door Status Spreadsheet in real-time based on trailer drops, picks, and schedules.
• Dispatch move instructions and door assignments to the Yard Driver(s) based on trailer availability, appointment times, and operational priorities.
• Maximize door turns by reducing the time a dock door sits empty between loads.
• Perform yard checks multiple times per shift to confirm trailer locations, validate spreadsheet data, and maintain real-time yard visibility.
• Monitor inbound and outbound schedules to anticipate door and trailer needs.
• Communicate regularly with warehouse operations, transportation, and drivers to coordinate trailer movements.
• Identify inefficiencies or delays and take proactive steps to resolve them quickly.
• Assist in the continuous improvement of yard and dock processes to support business objectives.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of trailer moves, arrivals, and departures.
• Follow and enforce all site safety rules and protocols during yard operations.
  
  

Key Objectives

• Increase dock door utilization (turns per day).
• Minimize trailer dwell time at dock doors.
• Ensure accurate and current yard inventory at all times.
  
  

Qualifications

• Experience in logistics, transportation, yard management, or dispatching preferred.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proven ability to multi-task and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable working both outdoors in the yard and indoors near the dock area.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  
  

Working Conditions

• This role is not a traditional office job – frequent walking, yard inspections, and coordination with active drivers and warehouse staff are required.
• Must be able to work in varying weather conditions.
• May require wearing safety gear (PPE) while in the yard or on the dock.
