Job summary

Testa Produce is seeking a reliable Yard/Transport operator to efficiently stage trailers, back them into docks, and monitor refrigeration and safety systems. The role requires staying attentive to temperature controls and following strict safety procedures in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Work hours are Monday to Friday from 4:00pm to 12:00am, with occasional holiday work. A CDL-A is required, and candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold conditions to support our

Qualifications

• Proficient in safe operation of yard trucks, trailers and related equipment.
• Able to maneuver within tight yard spaces and follow traffic patterns.
• Knowledge of loading/unloading procedures and trailer hookups.
• Understanding of refrigeration equipment operation and maintain temperature control.
• Strong English communication, reading and writing; bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

• Stage trailers/trucks for loading with proper temperature control.
• Back trailers/trucks into loading docks and perform safety checks.
• Move equipment to yard stalls to prevent traffic backup.
• Follow safety protocols and perform fleet safety checks.
• Fuel trucks and DEF as needed; monitor refrigeration set points.
• Collaborate with warehouse and Transportation/Warehouse teams to ensure proper equipment is used.
• Coordinate with maintenance for timely repairs before use.
• Coordinate pick-up/return of fleet from service providers.

Founded in 1991, Testa Produce, Inc. is the successor entity to the original Dominick Testa and Sons. The members of the Testa Family continue to work at Testa Produce, Inc. Testa Produce's roots date back to 1912, with founder Dominick Testa selling stalks of celery door-to-door out of a basket. The creation of the Chicago Terminal Produce Market provided a central selling location for years. As the restaurant industry evolved, so did Testa Produce. In 2011, Testa expanded yet again and moved into its new home: a 91,300 square foot facility to accommodate an ever-growing list of restaurants, hotels and foodservice customers.

Essential Functions:

• Efficiently and accurately stage trailers/trucks for loading and transport while ensuring proper temperature control
• Maneuver and back trailers/trucks into loading docks, pre-trip fleet equipment, including trailers, straight trucks, tractors, spotter trucks
• Maneuver trailers/trucks into yard parking stalls to ensure there is no traffic backup
• Follow all safety protocols, including performing safety checks to secure the fleet
• Fuel trucks/trailers with diesel and DEF fluid as needed
• Check proper refrigeration set points on equipment
• Perform safety checks of theyard and equipment fleet
• Collaborate with warehouse personnel using asafety traffic control lighting system to move equipment from one location to another, according to door assignments
• Work with theTransportation/Warehouse Management team to ensure theproper equipment is used for routes
• Work closely with themaintenance shop to ensure repairs are finished before using the equipment
• Take and pick up thefleet from service providers as needed

Competencies, Education, and Experience:

• Proficiency in operating yard trucks, trailers, and other equipment safely and efficiently
• Ability to maneuver vehicles in tight spaces and follow traffic patterns within the yard
• Understanding of loading and unloading procedures, trailer hookups, and brake systems
• Proper understanding and operation of refrigeration equipment
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English to communicate verbally and in writing, bilingual a plus
• Able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as neededability to follow directions, and willing to learn
• Ability to follow directions and willing to learn
• Minimum of 21 years of age
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) A Required

Schedule:

• Monday - Friday
• Start time of 4:00pm - 12:00am
• Some mandatory Holiday work included

Physical Demands:

• Work in cold and wet cooler conditions as low as zero degrees, for extended periods of time
• Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
• Stand or sit for long periods of time

Compensation:

• $22.50/hour
