Job description

The Oconomowoc Area School District is seeking an Accounting Apprentice for Summer 2026 – June 2027. This is an excellent opportunity to support District staff, students, and our Business Office team. You will work with team members who will share valuable knowledge and real-world accounting experience that can lend itself to your career success.

Job Responsibilities

Following a thorough training experience, you will assist with preliminary and year end audit preparation, processing invoices, collecting and recording receipt documentation, maintaining fixed assets, preparing journal entries, bank reconciliations, conducting internal audit procedures, documenting department processes and project work as needed.

Job Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Incoming high school sophomore or junior (as of the 2025-26 school year) with an interest in pursuing accounting.
    • Completion of at least one OHS accounting course.
    • Completion of at least one HSB course preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Basic knowledge of accounting, including assets, liabilities, equity, revenues, expenses, debits and credits, and financial statements.
    • Experience with computer software programs, especially Microsoft Excel.
    • Flexible and effective communication skills.
    • Self‑motivated and creative problem‑solver.
    • A strong desire to learn and contribute to a high‑performing team.
    • Capable of working both independently and in diverse teams.
    • Organizational skills and personal accountability.
    • Reliable, especially as it relates to job attendance.
    • Professionalism, ethics, and discretion over work performed.
Additional Job Information

This role has the unique advantage of offering flexibility during the school year, with most work occurring over the summer and during school breaks during normal business hours (between 7am and 5pm). Work release for YA program can be offered during your school day to work toward fulfilling your minimum 10 hours a week. Certain tasks can be performed remotely, thus increasing the flexibility of working hours. Attire for this position can be described as relaxed business casual. The pay range for this role is $13‑15/hour based on experience.
