Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is hiring a Before and After School Care Site Assistant at Fraser Public Schools in Fraser, MI. You will help support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through structured activities and supervised programs.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent; some experience supervising children is preferred. You will work with site staff to ensure safety, plan daily activities, and communicate with families.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some experience supervising children preferred.
  • Meets state licensing and DHS clearance requirements, TB test, and CPR/First Aid/AED certifications within stated timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Attends to the needs of participating children at all times, while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment
  • Plans and leads daily/monthly curriculum-based lesson plans and activities approved by the Site Supervisor
  • Set up and clean up physical learning environments and prepare necessary materials and supplies, ensuring all equipment and supplies meet maintenance and storage standards
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with assigned school and YMCA staff and program participants through attendance of staff meetings, open houses, and PTA meetings
  • Maintains appropriate staff-to-child ratios and assumes shared responsibility for housekeeping tasks
  • Serves prepared healthy snacks to children and maintains required paperwork
  • Has an understanding of all emergency site procedures and record drills
  • Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Before and After School Care Site Assistant is responsible for general subversion and management of assigned school sites while assisting in the development of children’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development.

SITE LOCATION PLACEMENT

The Site Assistant will be located at Fraser Public Schools and will receive their school site location, from Management, based on staff availability and levels in the area.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • At a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent is required (over 18+ years of age)
  • Some experience supervising children is preferred, but not required
TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES
  • Meets state-licensing agency requirement
  • Achieves DHS Clearance, with documentation, prior to starting work
  • Passes TB skin test within 30 days of hire
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications within 60 days of hire
ABILITIES & SKILLS
  • Ability to participate in, plan, and lead all physical activities
  • Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children
  • Capability to be outside for up to 30 minutes a day, year-round
