Job summary

ByteDance’s Pico team in San Jose is building a leading VR/AR platform focused on immersive experiences for education and healthcare. We are seeking a highly skilled PhD candidate or holder to join our hardware–software co-design effort and push the boundaries of real-time perception on edge devices.

You will work across camera sensor tech, ML-based perception, and efficient implementations in Python and C/C++.

Qualifications

• PhD in EE/ECE/CS/Applied Physics or related field.
• Experience with cameras/optical image sensors and computer vision on real images.
• Hands-on hardware prototype experience (PCB, FPGA, sensor front-end).
• Strong ML/vision background with understanding of model input data needs.
• Proficient in Python and C/C++.
• Proactive communicator in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Develop power and computationally efficient machine vision perception systems.
• Camera system level HW and SW development.
• Design experiments and test platforms for visual performance evaluation.
• Optimize vision algorithms for edge devices with HW/SW co-design.
• Define specs for next-gen VR/MR/AR cameras and see-through experiences.
