The X-ray Technologist is responsible for obtaining diagnostic radiographic examinations.
Responsibilities
- Produce diagnostic radiographic examinations by positioning patients, providing immobilization devices, shielding, selecting proper technical factors based on individual patient needs, and operating equipment as required.
- Gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols, ensuring patient safety and appropriate procedures.
- Follow ALARA principles to restrict radiation beam through proper collimation, ensuring safety for all patients.
- Perform portable x-ray examinations in various settings such as patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.
- Identify patient images correctly with name and MRN#, and mark images appropriately.
- Process and reconstruct images using available methods.
- Maintain an orderly x-ray room, including managing supplies.
- Prepare radiopaque contrast media and assist providers with administration when necessary.
- Handle administrative duties like scheduling, patient instructions, record maintenance, and reception.
- Assist patients with mobility and positioning depending on individual needs.
- Work scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends; overtime and on-call as needed.
- Adhere to hospital policies and standards, including safety, behavior, and attendance.
- Greet patients using A.I.D.E.T. standards and perform daily clerical tasks using hospital systems.
- Modify care based on patient needs considering age, culture, language, etc., and communicate appropriately.
- Perform daily and monthly QA procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Lift at least 25 lbs., push/pull at least 50 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours daily.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Completion of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in computer systems like Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Licenses and Certifications
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification.
- NJ state license for Diagnostic Radiology.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of employment.
