Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown is seeking a versatile Support/Service Associate to aid the patient care team and transport patients and items as needed. The role involves moving patients, delivering supplies, and supporting housekeeping, dietetic, linen, and material handling tasks across the facility.

The position requires flexible hours with an evening shift (1:00pm - 11:30pm), rotating holidays and weekends, and a 40-hour workweek, reporting to the Central Transport

Qualifications

• Must have valid FSWP from MCHD prior to start or obtain temporary and permanent FSWP within timelines.
• Certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support patient care team and transport patients as needed.
• Transport various items throughout the facility.
• Tackle housekeeping duties and basic utilities tasks as assigned.
• Maintain cleanliness and operate with teamwork to deliver quality service.
• Perform dietetic and linen-related tasks as part of patient support operations.
• Assist with patient tray lines, dish room, and hospital cafeteria duties as needed.
• Handle equipment and material transport and inventory duties.
• Assist in retrieving soiled linen, processing linen, and distributing clean linen.
• Assist with overall material handling and supply distribution for Surgical Services.
• Adhere to safety procedures and maintain productive, cost-effective work.

Job description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. 1. Must have a valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from Monongalia County Health Department (MCHD) prior to starting OR obtain a MCHD Temporary FSWP no later than the first Wednesday of employment and a permanent MCHD FSWP within 1 month of start date (next available class). Must have a valid NCHD FSWP throughout employment.
2. 2. Obtain certification inHeartSaverFirst Aid within 30 days of hire date

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. 1. All duties listed and assigned to the Support Associate position (see Support Associate job description for full list of duties and responsibilities).
2. 2. The Support Associate role is a position providing support to the patient care team as well as directly attending to certain, specified needs of the patient.The Support Associate performs the transportation of patients to and from testing areas and other areas as needed.The Support Associate also transports various items throughout the facility.
3. 3. All duties listed and assigned to the Housekeeping Assistant position (see Housekeeping Assistant job description for full list of duties and responsibilities).
4. 4. Cleans areas of responsibility utilizing proper procedures. Maintains productivity and cost effectiveness. Teamwork oriented.
5. 5. All duties listed and assigned to the Dietetic Assistant position (see Dietetic Assistant job description for full list of duties and responsibilities).
6. 6. Dietetic Assistants may be assigned a variety of fundamental food service duties. Typical assignments include patient tray line (meal assembly), dish room, utilities (floors and trash), cafeteria server, and cold food production. Work as a team to deliver high quality food and service to patients and customers.
7. 7. All duties listed and assigned to the Linen Services Attendant position (see Linen Services Attendant job description for full list of duties and responsibilities).
8. 8. Performs all activities associated with the retrieval of soiled linen, processing of linen and distribution of clean linen.
9. 9. All duties listed and assigned to the Material Handling Attendant position (see Material Handling Attendant job description for full list of duties and responsibilities).
10. 10. Receives, inventories, stocks, issues, handles, and distributes all supplies, equipment and instrumentation used throughout West Virginia University Hospitals which are the responsibility of Materials Management.Includes maintaining adequate inventory levels of supplies (stock) required to support activities for Surgical Services room stock.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. 1. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stopping, reaching, standing.
2. 2. Be able to walk for long periods of time.
3. 3. Positioning and lifting of patients’ weighing 50 pounds.
4. 4. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
5. 5. Ability to stand for entire shift.
6. 6. Pushing/pulling carts or beds weighing up to 200 pounds.
7. 7. Ability to pull a fully loaded meal cart up to 250 pounds.
8. 8. Pushing loaded supply carts weighting in excess of 600 pounds.
9. 9. Must possess visual and oral acuity.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

1. 1. Ability to effectively work in noisy setting and under deadline pressures.
2. 2. Work area may be hot and/or wet.
3. 3. Work with cleaning and dishwashing chemicals.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. 1. Math skills necessary to count, inventory and convert each/box/case quantities.
2. 2. Must possess excellent communication skills (both phone and personal).
3. 3. Must be able to work in a high stress environment.

This position may be assigned to a variety of service positions throughout WVUH, including Material Handling Attendant, Equipment Handling Attendant, Housekeeping Assistant, Dietetic Assistant, Support Associate, and Linen Services Attendant. This position will report to the Central Transport Department at the beginning of their assigned shift to receive their daily assignment and must report to the assigned department and position for that shift. This position will not have the right to refuse to work their assignment provided the assignment is one of the following positions: Material Handling Attendant, Equipment Handling Attendant, Housekeeping Assistant, Dietetic Assistant, Support Associate, and Linen Services Attendant.
