Job summary

WVU Medicine is seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead organizational projects, coordinate with IT, vendors, and customers, and ensure successful delivery from planning through close. This role requires strong leadership, budgeting, and risk-management skills to support hospital systems and staff across sites.

The ideal candidate will manage multiple concurrent initiatives, mentor teammates, and travel to affiliated locations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or MIS or 4 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams on organizational-wide mid- to low-risk projects affecting multiple people.
  • Develop and manage project work plans, reporting, issue tracking, scope, cost, resources, time, communications, and risk.
  • Coordinate with IT, vendors, and customers to ensure successful project completion.
  • Serve as liaison between IT and other practices within the health system, providing on-site visits and regular communication.
  • Facilitate transition of project support to Customer Service at completion.
  • Manage project risks and issues, escalating appropriately and implementing change control processes.
  • Ensure project status and outcomes are clearly communicated to all levels.
  • Oversee staffing, including consultants and vendors, and manage external resources.
  • Track project budgets typically under $500,000 and provide invoicing oversight.
  • Apply critical thinking to solve project problems using systematic approaches.
  • Promote collaboration and positive relationships with customers, staff, and sponsors.
  • Make informed decisions and forecast changes while communicating risks proactively.
  • Utilize project management tools such as Windows, MS Project, MS Office, and MS SharePoint.
  • Perform administrative responsibilities including planning and departmental participation.
  • Mentor and train colleagues to exceed expectations.
  • Travel to facilities as needed for implementation, training, and support.
  • Adhere to WVUHS policies and any entity-specific policies.

  • Adhere to WVUHS policies and any additional policies of the entity or entities to which the IT team member is assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or MIS, or related field required, or four (4) years of relevant experience such as project management, project coordination, project lead, or systems analysis.
  • Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in the current position to qualify for promotion within IT.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Associate in Project Management Certification preferred.
  • One year hospital or hospital Information Technology experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping necessary body movements utilized during the work shift.
