An established industry player in campus recreation is seeking Graduate Assistants to support and enhance the wellness and education opportunities at West Virginia University. The Department of Campus Recreation at West Virginia University employs a team of Graduate Assistants that assist in the administration and delivery of the department's programs and services. Graduate Assistants work collaboratively with professional staff and others toward achieving our mission of providing exceptional recreation, wellness, and education opportunities that meet the needs of the West Virginia University campus community.
Campus Recreation is housed in the Office of Student Wellness, a division of Student Life at WVU.
Graduate Assistants in general will be responsible for staff supervision, administrative duties, project and event management.
While Graduate Assistants have their primary program area, they will also be required to assist with department initiatives and program areas outside of their area of expertise. This includes facility supervision, special events, serving on committees and work teams as well as other duties as assigned.
Graduate Assistants are required to work the full summer between the first and second year of their Assistantship. During the summer months, GA’s are paid hourly at a rate of $19/hr with the ability to work up to 40 hours a week. During this time GA’s may be required to work outside of their program area based on departmental needs.
Graduate waivers are only awarded to academic programs in the College of Applied Human Sciences. Degree programs offered include on-campus master programs in Sport Coaching, Physical Education Teacher Education and Sport Management. Positions are designed as two, one-year contracts covering the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years.
Graduate Assistantship contract is contingent on acceptance into a WVU graduate school program.
