Job description

About the Writing Program

The Writing Program at Seattle Pacific University supports writing instruction from a student’s first year until graduation. The program coordinates the two‑course sequence all incoming first‑year students take, offers a seminar on the teaching of writing, hosts writing/pedagogy workshops, facilitates faculty writing groups, and oversees the year‑end Rauer and Hedges Writing Awards and their companion “How I Learned to Write” lecture series.

Responsibilities

Teach the first‑year writing sequence courses WRI 1000 and WRI 1100, working closely with SPU WRI faculty to engage students in a transformative first‑year experience.

Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in composition and rhetoric, literature, or terminal degree in a related field with a heavy emphasis on writing.
  • Personal commitment to Christian faith, enthusiasm for supporting SPU’s mission, alignment with the University’s Statement of Faith, and willingness to accept the lifestyle standards of the Christian community.
  • Comfortability discussing the intersection of faith and writing with students.
