Job summary

Livingstone College is seeking a Director of Writing Center in Salisbury, NC. The role oversees daily operations, ensures quality evaluation of student papers, and supports student writing initiatives.

The position requires a Master’s degree or higher in English, plus extensive teaching and tutoring experience. You will supervise peer tutors, maintain records, and promote writing across campus within the Success Center.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in English or Doctorate in English.
  • Knowledge of college-level instructional requirements and methods.
  • Supervisory, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
  • Broad knowledge of rhetoric and composition.
  • Knowledge of grammar and punctuation rules.
  • Knowledge of varieties of literary genres.
  • Knowledge of writing center theory and its applications.
  • Familiarity with educational technology used for writing support.
  • Strong keyboarding skills and related software proficiency.
  • Ability to manage schedules, set priorities and allocate resources.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff and instructors.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate sessions to faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Develop standard policies and procedures for evaluating student papers and resumes.
  • Request services, equipment, materials, and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain an attractive, motivating environment in the Writing Center.
  • Conduct outreach to faculty and campus; develop and run writing workshops.
  • Meet with the Dean and English faculty to discuss department writing needs.
  • Collaborate with Success Center directors to develop assessment tools for reporting.
  • Monitor student submissions and communicate issues about formatting or incompleteness.
  • Handle external inquiries about Writing Center operations and policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records under FERPA and secure files.
