Job description

JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the marketing and communications team, this role leads the development of strategic and engaging marketing, public relations, and policy content that strengthens our voice, advances our positions, and builds our brand and reputation as a thought leader in improving the oral health of all. This in‑house writer serves as a central resource for marketing and web copy, media‑facing materials, policy narratives, and op‑eds, ensuring consistency, accuracy, quality, and timeliness in all situations.

The role will work closely with marketing and communications team members, the leadership team, and programmatic areas to translate complex strategic priorities into clear, compelling written content. This includes, but isn’t limited to, creating and refining materials such as press releases, op‑eds, policy briefs, peer‑reviewed manuscripts, articles, blog posts, talking points, web copy, marketing copy, and strategic messaging, while also supporting broader organizational writing needs as needed.

The role helps coordinate the development, deployment, and performance tracking of content, as well, understanding when and how data and various stakeholder perspectives should influence writing and how to adjust voice to connect with our audiences. This also includes working with external partners and agencies, ensuring all content reflects our brand, voice, and strategic priorities.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead development of public relations and policy content, including press releases, op‑eds, policy briefs, articles, statements, talking points, blog posts, and executive communications that advance organizational priorities and strengthen external voice.
  • Translate complex policy, research, and advocacy topics into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with priority audiences, including media, providers, policymakers, partners, and the public.
  • Serve as the organization’s primary in-house resource for PR, policy, and other writing, ensuring all are high‑quality, timely, and on‑brand deliverables.
  • Partner closely with marketing, communications, leadership, and programmatic teams to shape messaging, respond to emerging issues, and proactively position the organization in external conversations.
  • Contribute to broader marketing and communications efforts, providing writing support for campaigns, web content, newsletters, and other channels as needed.
  • Draft and refine media‑facing materials, including quotes, rapid‑response statements, key messages, and background materials to support media engagement and thought leadership.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, executives, and partners to gather insights and develop authoritative content that reflects the organization’s expertise and perspective.
  • Support strategic communications planning, helping identify opportunities for visibility through earned media, policy engagement, and thought leadership.
  • Coordinate with external partners or agencies when needed, providing direction, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with internal strategy and messaging.
  • Monitor and assess the performance and impact of PR and policy content, using insights to refine messaging and improve effectiveness over time.
  • Help establish and maintain content standards and processes to ensure all materials are accurate, consistent, and delivered efficiently.
  • Other duties as needed or required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
  • Demonstrated background in public policy writing
  • 5+ years of related experience developing and delivering content across a broad range of platforms and formats.
  • Exceptional communicator and strategic thinker with a proven ability to translate complex concepts into easily digestible and compelling content.
  • Data‑driven and easily able to translate data into meaningful insights to influence future content creation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well in a team environment with a proven track record in driving partnerships and relationships with internal and external functions/partners.
  • Ability to contribute effectively, move quickly, and work collaboratively across all departments and levels of the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
  • Experience in health care industry and strong understanding of U.S. policy environment.
Preferred
  • Experience in/knowledge of oral health industry.
  • Experience creating content using an industry‑advancing voice and positioning.
  • Master’s degree in relevant field preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to work in a traditional professional office setting or remote environment.
  • Work schedule may vary and is determined by project schedules.
  • Ability to travel as projects dictate.
  • Ability to efficiently operate all job‑related office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and work in virtual teams.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position own position responsibilities (i.e. use of personal computer).
  • Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required.
  • Incumbent works primarily in either a private or shared office environment.

The target hiring range for this role is $89,505 - $105,300 (annually). The starting base salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and other job‑related factors. In addition, our total rewards package includes medical, dental, and vision plans; generous time off including PTO, short and long‑term disability insurance and competitive 401(k) savings match including financial planning workshops.
