Job summary

Job description

This position will be assigned to one of the four Cobb Water Reclamation Facilities. This position is vital to the daily operations of the Water System as it provides supervision of day-to-day operations and staff involved in the operation and maintenance at the reclamation facility.

This position also organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work: monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff, assists with complex and problem situations, and provides technical expertise; develops, coordinates, and conducts staff training to maintain a safe working environment and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental rules and regulations.

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.

Coordinates daily work activities at and assigned water reclamation facility: organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work: monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff, assists with complex and problem situations, and provides technical expertise; develops, coordinates and conducts staff training; and monitors staff certification and licensure.

Supervises the daily operations of water reclamation facility: implements operational policies and procedure, safety rules and regulations; and keeps employees informed of operational and policy changes and their impact on the plant and work assignments.

Ensures plant activities and operations comply with all local, state and federal rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures: monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; and prepares and submits related reports as required.

Monitors plant systems: conducts periodic inspections and tests of operations and processing equipment; ensures proper operating conditions; performs and/or supervises equipment maintenance; adjusts and calibrates equipment to ensure effective treatment of water and maintenance of plant discharge limits; analyzes and maintains all related logs and records.

Supervises the collection laboratory analysis of water samples: ensures adherence to regulatory parameters; identifies concentrations of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of water; records findings; evaluates data; makes adjustments to water treatment; and writes and approves related reports as required.

Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment: monitors inventory levels of chemicals, laboratory testing supplies, spare parts for equipment, etc.; initiates purchase orders; communicates and coordinates delivery with vendors; maintains related documentation.

Evaluates plant operational capability: makes recommendations regarding capital improvements, changes in equipment, plant design, or other plant operations; prepares equipment requisitions; obtains quotes; and reviews project progress and scheduling with project engineers and/or contractors as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in water reclamation; supplemented by five years of progressively responsible experience in operating water reclamation facilities.

Lead or supervisory experience preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain State of Georgia Class I Wastewater license. Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, gases, airborne particles,temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
