Stayton High School invites applications for a Varsity Assistant Wrestling Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. This seasonal, temporary role is assigned to Schedule C and ranges from $4,648 to $5,626 based on verifiable prior paid experience at this age level.

Under the Athletic Director and head coach, you will teach and coach student-athletes to excel in wrestling, providing guidance in knowledge, skill, and performance in a positive, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Coaching experience preferred.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Encourage participation in multiple sports.
• OSAA/NFHS coaching certification and related trainings.
• Medical/First Aid certifications and Safe Schools trainings.
• Demonstrate leadership, communication, and ethical behavior.
• Punctual with regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in organized, supervised practice as the program requires.
• Teach the skills and strategies of wrestling.
• Lead drills to develop strength, stamina, and speed.
• Develop seasonal goals and daily practice plans.
• Maintain communication with parents, press, officials, and boosters.
• Ensure safety and proper care of facilities and equipment.

Varsity Assistant Coach - Wrestling

POSITION TYPE: Seasonal

CONTRACT STATUS: Temporary Position (renewable one-year contract)

PAY: For the 2026-2027 school year, is assigned to Schedule C and ranges from $4,648 to $5,626, based on verifiable prior paid experience at this age level

PURPOSE: Under the direction of the head coach, teaches and coaches student-athletes who desire to excel in Wrestling and provides them with the opportunity to develop knowledge, skill, and performance in a positive, supportive environment.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Athletic Director, David Holcomb ([e-mail]), Principal, Jamie McCarty ([e-mail]), and the head coach.

Assigned Responsibilities

1. Assists in organized, supervised practice as the program requires
2. Teaches all of the skills necessary to participate in the sport
3. Teaches the strategies necessary to participate in the sport
4. Teaches drills and exercises to develop strength, stamina, and speed in the sport
5. Assists in the development of seasonal goals and objectives and daily practice plans
6. Assists in the development of lines of communication with parents, press, officials, and booster clubs to promote the sport
7. Supervises locker room before and after practice, as required
8. Supervises bus trips, as required
9. Adheres to Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) rules and regulations, Oregon West Conference/Special District SOPs, and Stayton High School/District policies
10. Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District
11. Actively encourages student participation
12. Promotes the ethical values of athletics
13. Maintains positive working relationships with the head coach, administration, other staff, and the community to enhance the sport
14. Assists with the proper care, maintenance, and security of facilities, equipment, and supplies from the first day of the season until the cycle of responsibility is completed
15. Promotes the concept of sportsmanship
16. Develops positive health and safety standards for all program athletes

Qualifications

1. Must be at least 21 years of age
2. Previous coaching experience is preferred
3. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work positively with students, staff, and parents
4. Must encourage and understand the benefits of students participating in multiple sports
5. Possess the following certifications:
6. • OSAA/NFHS Coaching Certification
   • • Concussion Recognition & Management, Heat Illness Prevention, Anabolic Steroids & Performance Enhancing Substances, and Interrupting & Preventing Discriminatory Acts Training
7. Medical & First Aid Certifications
8. • First Aid & CPR and Severe Allergy & EpiPen Training
9. Complete District safety trainings
10. • Safe Schools Trainings
    • • Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention, Child Abuse: Identification & Intervention, NSSD Mandatory Reporting Information, NSSD Professional Conduct Between Adults & Students, NSSD Seizure Training, PSA: Bullying and Hazing, Sex Abuse Prevention Training, and Student Alcohol & Substance Misuse & Abuse
11. Demonstrate strong leadership, communication skills, and a high level of ethical behavior
12. Must be punctual and have regular attendance.
