Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and manage supplies according to protocol.
  • Assist in handling lab orders and radiology orders under physician direction.
  • Provide infection control and PPE adherence and participate in daily huddles and team meetings.

Job description

City/State: Hawthorne, New York Department: WPHPA Hawthorne Orthopedic_1 Work Shift: Day Work Days: MON-FRI Scheduled Hours: 8:30 AM-4:30 PM Hours Per Pay Period: 75 Pay Rate/Range: $25 - $38 For positions that have only a rate listed, the displayed rate is the hiring rate but could be subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education or other relevant factors.

Position Summary The Patient Care Assistant will perform a variety of clinical and office duties under the Physician/Provider/Nurse's direct supervision.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

  1. Adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  2. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; obtaining patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures; charting and answering calls.
  3. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient records and documents; scheduling surgical procedures and tests; obtaining pre-certification for health care services; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete.
  4. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned rooms and insures par levels of supplies are maintained. Checks and completes required logs and other required checks.
  5. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned by department protocols including; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, maintaining infection control protocols; keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies and restocking exam/procedure rooms
  6. Assists providers with management of EPM and EHR. Including “queuing up” laboratory and radiology orders as per a Physician.
  7. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergencies; communicates concerns/ problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
  8. Fulfills responsibilities including medical/surgical asepsis, as well as, obtaining vital signs; physical examination preparations; assisting with procedures and examinations as required. Assists in the collections and appropriate handling of laboratory specimens. and other office specific tasks as necessary
  9. Adheres to White Plains Hospital infection control standards including, but not limited to, hand hygiene, use of PPE, isolation of patient with known infectious disease, and equipment disinfection.
  10. Participates as a member of the patient care team and is responsible for participating in daily huddles and regular scheduled practice team meetings.
  11. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required
  • Basic medical terminology, Electronic Scheduling and Electronic Medical Record experience required
  • Minimum two years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a Patient Care Assistant required.
  • As of July 15th, 2018 BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all Patient Care Assistants.
  • Patient Care Assistants hired before 7/15/18 must receive the BLS certification by 7/15/19
  • Patient Care Assistants hired on or after 7/15/18 must have their BLS upon hire or obtain the certification during the Hospital Orientation.

A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at each site and at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
