Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform housekeeping tasks at the treatment plant and pump stations (sweeping, mopping, washing, painting, etc.).
• Monitor gauges, meters and control panels; document readings and variations; collect sludge samples for lab analysis.
• Maintain tanks and channels, including cleaning and painting.
• Operate and drive equipment such as jet/vac trucks, TV inspection vehicle, forklifts and skid steers.
• Run sludge thickening processes and polymer feed systems; operate valves and generators manually or remotely.
• Do grounds maintenance including snow removal, mowing, trimming; monitor sludge loading to tanker trucks.
• Lubricate motors and other equipment; perform routine preventative maintenance.
• Conduct simple laboratory tests; work occasionally under unpleasant conditions (odors, fumes).
• Participate in on-call duties for emergencies within the plant and collection system.
• Open manholes to access wastewater collection system; perform other assigned duties.

SUMMARY:

This work involves the performing of a variety of routine tasksin, and around, an Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility and collection system. Work is performed following clearly prescribed standard operating procedures and readily understood department rules and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 3. Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels. Documents readings and observes variations in operating conditions. Collects sludge samples for lab analysis.
• 4. Performs tank and channel maintenance such as cleaning and painting.
• 5. Operates, and drives, automotive and mechanical equipment such as jet/vac truck, TV inspection vehicle, forklifts, skid steer, etc.
• 6. Operates sludge thickening processes and polymer feed systems.
• 7. Operates valves, pump engines, and generators manually or by remote control.Performs grounds maintenance such as snow removal, mowing, trimming, etc.Monitors the loading of liquid sludge to tanker trucks.
• 8. Lubricates motors and other equipment.
• 9. Performs routine preventative maintenance work as directed.Performs routine simple laboratory tests.
• 10. Occasionally works under unpleasant conditions, including fumes and odors.
• 11. Performs on-call duties for emergencies within the plant and collection system.
• 12. Opens manholes to gain access to wastewater collection system.
• 13. Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
• Must possess a State of Connecticut Wastewater Operator III license.
• Must possess a State of Connecticut CDL Class B License with tanker endorsement within 1 year after

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift up to and including 50 pounds.
• Must be able to walk on uneven ground.
• Must be able to climb and descend ladders.
• Ability to work outside for lengths of time during severe heat and cold weather.
