Under limited supervision, the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse provides an in-depth plan of care for patients in a specialty area of wounds, ostomies and continence for all ages (neonate to adult) throughout the organization for inpatients and outpatients. This role coordinates nursing management and collaborates with other health care providers to implement programmatic changes. This position updates clinical practice based on current research and changes in the age and level of development of patients, with consideration of the needs of patients’ families.

Job Summary/Purpose

Minimum Training and Education:

WOCN I: Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing and a minimum of three (3) years of applied related clinical work experience as an RN.

WOCN II: Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing. A minimum of three (3) years of applied related clinical work experience as an RN and 2 years of experience as a WOCNCB certified Wound and Ostomy (CWON) Nurse.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Current South Carolina or compact state licensure as a registered nurse. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Current WOCNCB, Wound and Ostomy (CWON) or Wound, Ostomy and Continence (CWOCN) certification required for WOCN II. Additional Continence and Foot Care Certification (CFCN) preferred.
