Responsible for providing consultative services to skilled nursing centers across Central Georgia related to wound, ostomy, and continence care. Serves to provide direct consultation, orientation, training, program review, and recommendations for centers to maintain an effective wound, ostomy, and continence care program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in incorporating wound, ostomy, and continence care into the patient’s total plan of care.
- Monitors the skilled nursing center wound care program adherence to guidelines and best practices, ensuring properly working equipment and adequate supplies; provides recommendations to the center’s Director of Nursing and Administrator as needed.
- Attends and participates in patient assessment and care planning meetings, including telemedicine consults.
- Provides on-site visits to centers as determined by their needs.
- Instructs other health team professionals and family members in methods to assist patients in improving or correcting compromised skin.
- Orients new skilled nursing center treatment nurses to their roles.
- Reviews the competence of nursing personnel assigned to treatments and makes necessary adjustments or corrections.
- Monitors center compliance with wound, ostomy, and continence guidelines.
- Makes equipment and supply recommendations to the center’s Administrator and/or Regional Vice President for Inpatient Services related to wound, ostomy, and continence care.
- Participates in continuing educational programs to stay current with practices in the field and support licensure and certification.
- Performs other duties as necessary to ensure the success of the system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A BSN degree with Registered Nurse licensure in Georgia or a compact state.
- Certified Wound Care Ostomy Nurse (WOCN).
- At least two years of experience as an Enterostomal Therapy Nurse in a hospital, skilled nursing care center, or related medical facility.
- Proven competence in wound care assessment and consulting.
- Ability to teach and present information positively to audiences with varying educational backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the State of Georgia as needed.
