Worship Director River of Life Baptist Church – Sunset Beach, North Carolina

Status: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Worship Director serves River of Life Baptist Church by providing spiritual, musical, and
administrative leadership to the church’s worship ministries. This individual will cultivate a
Christ-centered culture of worship, lead the congregation in meaningful corporate worship,
develop volunteer musicians and vocalists, and support the church’s overall ministry mission.
Because River of Life Baptist Church is a growing congregation of approximately 200 people
with only one full-time pastor, this role also includes selected supportive ministry responsibilities
to strengthen the church’s overall health and effectiveness.
Ministry Philosophy

- Develop and shepherd volunteers as worshipers first and musicians second.

Primary Responsibilities
Worship Planning and Leadership
- Plan and lead weekly worship services in cooperation with the Senior Pastor.
- Select songs that are biblically sound, congregationally accessible, and aligned with the sermon theme and church vision.
- Lead worship during Sunday morning services and special services throughout the year.
- Coordinate service elements including music, transitions, Scripture readings, prayer, and other worship components.
- Introduce new songs thoughtfully while maintaining a healthy balance of familiar congregational favorites.
Praise Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, and develop volunteer musicians and vocalists.
- Lead weekly rehearsals that are spiritually encouraging, organized, and productive.
- Build a healthy team culture marked by excellence, humility, servant leadership, and discipleship.
- Provide coaching and encouragement for team members’ spiritual and musical growth.
- Manage worship team scheduling through Planning Center or similar software.
Choir Ministry
- Direct and oversee the church choir.
- Plan and rehearse monthly choir presentations.
- Coordinate choir selections that support the worship ministry and church calendar.
- Recruit and encourage participation from choir members.
- Organize additional choir opportunities for Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions.
Worship Administration
- Maintain worship ministry schedules, music resources, and planning systems.
- Coordinate worship-related technology and volunteer teams as needed.
- Manage worship ministry budget and equipment recommendations.
- Ensure all worship materials are prepared and communicated in advance.
Supportive Church Ministry Responsibilities
- Assisting with pastoral care and member follow-up as appropriate.
- Participating in church events, outreach efforts, and ministry initiatives.
- Supporting volunteer recruitment and leadership development.
- Assisting with service planning for holidays and special church events.
- Providing occasional administrative support related to church communication and ministry coordination.
- Being present and engaged in the overall life of the church.
Qualifications
Spiritual Qualifications
- A growing and vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Demonstrates Christian character consistent with biblical leadership.
- Agreement with River of Life Baptist Church’s statement of faith and ministry philosophy. We adhere to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Commitment to active participation in the life and ministry of the church.
- A servant-hearted attitude and teachable spirit.
Ministry Qualifications
- Proven experience leading congregational worship.
- Ability to lead vocally and instrumentally (guitar, piano, or similar instrument preferred).
- Experience working with volunteer musicians and vocalists.
- Ability to direct or coordinate a choir ministry.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organizational and planning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal theological or musical training.
- Experience in church ministry beyond worship leadership.
- Familiarity with Planning Center, ProPresenter, and church worship technology.
- Experience serving in a multi-generational church environment.
