Job Title: Worship Director
The Role
The Worship Director serves as a key leader on the Mission Church team, ensuring worship experiences are Christ-centered, Spirit-led, and culturally accessible. This director-level leader drives worship and creative excellence across all ministries, fosters a culture of authentic worship, and equips worship leaders and musicians to carry out the mission of the church.
Key Areas of Responsibility
1. Team Development and Discipleship
- Recruit, train, and shepherd worship team volunteers (musicians, vocalists, leaders)
- Provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care to Worship staff, Coaches, and volunteers.
- Develop a volunteer leadership pipeline through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing training environments fit for their level of talent.
2. Worship Leadership & Oversight
- Lead worship from stage with excellence, humility, and pastoral connection.
- Serve as the primary worship voice for the church, guiding the congregation in a way that invites participation rather than spectatorship.
- Plan and lead weekly worship preparation in partnership with the Weekend Experience Director and execute with worship coordinators.
- Oversee the totality of Worship at Mission, including Mission Students (6-12th grade), working with Worship Staff to develop volunteers and pipeline for future leaders.
- Ensure theological alignment, artistic excellence, and spiritual vitality in all worship environments with Mission’s overall mission, vision, and values appropriately embodied within worship.
3. Administrative & Strategic Planning
- Develop a long-term vision and strategy for worship ministry that aligns with Mission's mission and the broader Creative Team.
- Responsible for the planning, allocation, and oversight of the annual Worship budget.
- Evaluate and improve worship systems, tools, and processes.
- Maintain consistency and contextualization of worship culture across multiple ministries.
Success in This Role Looks Like
- Musicians and vocalists feel known, shepherded, and developed. They grow as worshipers first and as artists second.
- The volunteer worship team is healthy, growing, and full of people who want to be there. A pipeline of emerging worship leaders is being raised up.
- Song selection is theologically sound, singable for the congregation, and shaped prayerfully around what's happening in the life of our church and each message series.
- You work closely with the Weekend Experience Team, so services feel unified from the first note to the last word.
- Rehearsals and services run with clarity and calm. Preparation is done ahead so the team can focus on worship instead of logistics.
The Kind of Person We're Looking For
- A worshiper before a performer. Your private walk with Jesus is evidence in how you lead publicly.
- A shepherd at heart who notices when a team member is struggling and follows up without being asked.
- A strong vocalist and confident leader who serves the room, whether it's 50 or 5,000, with the same humility and presence.
- Musically skilled, with the ability to shape a band, guide arrangements, and hold a high standard without making people feel small.
- Secure enough to lead without needing the spotlight, and generous in giving others opportunities to lead.
- Organized and dependable. Follow-through matters, and people can count on you.
- Coachable. You give and receive feedback well, and you're always learning.
