Job summary

BOLD Business is seeking a motivated Federal & Workplace Design Specialist to support GSA, public sector, and government contract projects. You will learn to manage contract documentation, navigate product compliance, and translate client needs into compliant, high-performance work environments.

As a junior professional, you will work with senior designers to produce workspace solutions, space plans, and presentations for high-visibility contracts while growing your design and coordination

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a FIDER or CIDA-accredited interior design program or equivalent.
• 0–2 years of industry experience; internship is a plus.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; CET Designer and ProjectSpec willingness to learn.
• Basic understanding of systems furniture and public sector/GSA environments.
• Highly organized, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Visuals & Plans: assist in CET drawings, furniture plans, product specs, 3D visuals, and client presentations.
• GSA & Code Compliance: learn to integrate codes and government procurement requirements.
• Documentation & Installation Packages: help produce installation drawings and specs.
• Field Coordination: participate in field verifications and measurements.
• Cross-Functional Teamwork: collaborate with senior designers and Account Executives.

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and design-driven Federal & Workplace Design Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will develop your technical skills, learn complex contract processes, and support the execution of GSA, public sector, and government contract projects. Representing a top-tier U.S. commercial furniture dealer handling premier brands like Haworth, Steelcase, Kimball, and Teknion, you will work closely with senior design staff to translate client requirements into compliant, high-performance commercial and federal workplace environments.

As an entry-to-junior-level professional, you will learn to manage contract-aligned documentation, navigate product compliance, and build your expertise in systems furniture. Partnering with senior designers and Account Executives, you will assist in producing workspace solutions, space plans, and visual presentations that support high-visibility contracts.

Key Responsibilities

• Visuals & Plans: Assist in the development of detailed CET drawings, furniture plans, product specifications, 3D visuals, and client presentation materials.
• GSA & Code Compliance: Support space planning efforts by learning to integrate systems furniture, architectural plans, commercial codes (ADA, LEED, WELL), and specific government procurement requirements under the guidance of senior team members.
• Documentation & Installation Packages: Help produce detailed installation drawings and specification packages, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project intent.
• Field Coordination: Participate in field verifications, inventories, and onsite measurements. Help identify and document discrepancies between plans and actual field conditions.
• Cross-Functional Teamwork: Partner with senior designers, Account Executives, and internal teams to execute project visions and solve design challenges.
• Professional Growth: Actively participate in client-facing meetings and coordination discussions alongside senior team members to build confidence and presentation skills.
• Project Tracking: Provide proactive, regular updates to Design Managers, Team Leads, and senior designers regarding project status, deadlines, and task completion.
• Mentorship Absorption: Actively seek feedback, participate in drawing reviews, and learn from technical guidance, product knowledge, and process coaching provided by Designer III team members.
• Quality Control: Adhere to established design standards, workflow processes, and quality control checklists to ensure all deliverables are accurate before release.
• Market Learning: Develop a baseline understanding of product innovations, workplace ergonomics, manufacturer resources, and sustainability considerations.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree from a FIDER or CIDA-accredited interior design program or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience: 0–2 years of industry experience, preferably with exposure to commercial interiors, furniture dealership projects, or workplace design solutions. (Internship experience in a similar environment is a major plus).
• Software Expertise: Proficiency in AutoCAD (basic drawing production, layers, and blocks). Familiarity with, or a strong willingness to learn, CET Designer (Configura) and ProjectSpec.
• Product & Sector Knowledge: Basic understanding of or strong interest in systems furniture, ancillary solutions, finish selections, and public sector/GSA environments.
• Mindset & Soft Skills: Highly organized, eager to learn, and possessive of strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to take direction well, ask clarifying questions, and thrive in a collaborative team setting.
